We arrived at Penny Hedge on the Saturday morning, dropped the bags in the room and immediately proceeded to the bar, as one does, after a couple of beers we were joined by friends, who said they were bringing the dog with them, I laughed it off when I found out, then they arrived with the dog. But to be honest, not a bit of trouble, and every pub we frequented had no issues with dogs going in.
So it was on, and a brisk walk into the town and we were quickly on it and the beer flowed nicely, the weather was pretty naff to be fair, but it didn't ruin anything at all, we even sat out eating fish and chips overlooking the harbour. all in all a great weekend away, and would definitely recommend Penny Hedge Hotel.
Stuff I didn't know about Whitby, Captain Cook severed his apprenticeship here learning how to become a seaman, he lived in John Walker's house, which is now the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, also I didn't know that Bram Stoker stayed in Whitby in 1890 sighting Whitby Abbey and its surroundings, together with the town's atmosphere, including the abbey ruins, the graveyard, and the shipwrecks, as great inspiration for the Dracula novels setting and plot.
