What a way to spend a day over the bank holiday weekend, watching four famous Knights enter battle for the legendary joust at Bolsover Castle in Derbyshire.
It was an exhilarating spectacle of speed and skill as the four gallant medieval knights, The Wyvern, The Wildman, Sir Lancelot and Jason of the Argonauts, battled it out to be crowned champion.

THE HERO OF MANY BATTLES, SIR LANCELOT ON HIS FEARLESS WAR HORSE GRINGOLET
The Jousting event is an exhilarating demonstration of skill, speed and courage. We watched in awe as four riders charged at each other with the lances outright while mounted on horseback in the grounds of this spectacular castle, all to secure the support of the crowds and ultimately become victorious.
Oscar loved watching these iron men on horseback fighting, and quickly wanted a sword and shield of his own so he could go off fighting with his new found friends.

LET BATTLE COMMENCE
We were entertained as lances clashed against the glistening armour of the brave Knights, we felt the thunder of hooves and heard the roar of the crowd, as the lances shattered, the knights reputations were won and lost.
In the 15th century medieval tournaments were the ultimate test of a knight’s skill, strength and courage and today nothing has changed. Game on!

We were supporting Sir Lancelot, and according to my recollection in my school history lessons, he was considered the best, most skilled knight in King Arthur's Court.
THE LIVING HISTORY ENCAMPMENT
Its time to immerse yourself in the lives of those living in the medieval period, and see how they lived day to day life in the 15th century.
